Chillin’ and Drivin’ in NZ

Not much happened today, but I’m trying to be consistent so…you get a blog post. It will probably be boring. Sorry.

I slept in till 9:30 this morning, which was fantastic. Then we got on the road again and drove from Te Anau to Queenstown, where we stopped for groceries. We also were pretty close to running out of gas (the light had been on for at least half an hour), but we made it, so that was a success!

Then we drove from Queenstown up to Wanaka, and we stopped at one of the many, many scenic overlooks to make sandwiches for lunch. I’ve definitely eaten lunch in worse spots.

We made it to our hostel in Wanaka by 4pm, and as much as I would’ve liked to walk around and explore the town, we decided to take a rest day and just chill out this afternoon and evening. I don’t think I mentioned this in yesterday’s post, but I seem to have hurt my toe somehow. It was sore after Key Summit a couple days ago, and even more sore after the hiking yesterday, and by last night it was swollen and throbbing and I wanted to chop it off. So I’ve been limping around all day today, and I’m a little concerned that it’s going to disrupt our plans to do a hike tomorrow near Wanaka and a hike on Franz Josef glacier the next day.

But we just drove to the Subway near our hostel and I snuck in to siphon off some ice from their drink machine into a sandwich bag, so now Sarah and I are chillin’ in some bean bags catching up on emails and pictures and blog posts and my foot is propped up with ice on it. I’m hoping that giving my toe a rest today will let it heal enough to hike tomorrow, but if not, we’ll probably rent a couple bikes and at least get to explore Wanaka that way!

Here are more pretty pictures. Please accept them as my apology for this boring post.
